Heidi Goes (BantUGent) gave a talk at the conference La linguistique Kikongo au XXIe siècle : de l’oralité au numérique [Kikongo Linguistics in the 21st Century: From Orality to the Digital Age] in Versailles, organized by the Institut International du Kikongo.
She spoke about her research in the DRC and Angola on phonological and morphological differences in the Kikongo Language Cluster, about the apparent problems of conserving documentation written in these languages and about which language varieties to choose to document (e.g., regarding the Ibinda case).
Apart from an introduction by the president of the Institute, Kembela Kasidimoko on the importance of documentation, other speakers included Yves Monino (LLACAN) and Matuka Yeno Mansoni (online from the USA) on his new learner’s book for Kikongo.
Most of the 50 participants participated online through the channels of the Institute. A publication of the talks’ summaries is foreseen.
